I was the highest bidder in a pre-auction “bidding war” instigated by Vicki for a unit in Potts Point. After my highest bid was submitted, one of the key conditions of the deal was subsequently changed. As a result, I advised that I would need clarity by a certain time or I would withdraw my offer — a reasonable and standard position in any negotiation. Despite this, the following day I was informed that the vendor had decided to sell the property to a “friend” at exactly the same price as my final bid, as later published on Domain. What was most disappointing was that this was not communicated to me directly. I only became aware of the sale after a friend of mine independently contacted the agency to enquire about the property. No meaningful explanation was provided, nor was I given any opportunity to negotiate or engage further. While negotiations can change and vendors can do whatever they want, this does not excuse a lack of transparency or a failure to manage the situation professionally. The way this was handled raised serious concerns about whether bidders were being used purely for price discovery rather than treated as genuine buyers (given that the final sale price reflected my exact final bid.) This experience resulted in wasted time, unnecessary costs, and a complete loss of confidence in the process. I was particularly disappointed given the positive reputation I had heard about Vicki prior to this experience.
