We appointed Mark Watkins to sell my mother’s property after meeting with two other agents that same day. During the appointment, my young daughter was with us. Mark told her that if your parents chose him as their agent, he would buy her a pair of Air Jordans because his daughter could get them at a discount. As a parent himself, he should understand that making a promise directly to a child simply to help secure business is inappropriate. Despite following up with him afterwards, our messages were ignored, and the promise was never acknowledged or fulfilled. Whether he sold the property is not the issue. My concern is the lack of integrity and professionalism. Don’t make promises to children as part of a sales pitch if you have no intention of keeping them. If this is considered an acceptable way to win business, I find that very concerning.
