Extremely unprofessional and disappointing experience with Karan. We were explicitly told “the property is yours if you want it, the owners know of you and want to rent to you”. We were concerned that because I was on maternity leave for the last year our finances didn’t look strong enough and we asked if we should put somebody else on the lease with us. She said “just get your application in and we can chat about all of that later.” Her attitude changed noticeably as soon as we asked reasonable and necessary questions about the property - including whether specific fences would be fixed, about bathroom switches hanging off the wall, pool maintenance, and clarification around income requirements. She told us we asked too many questions (we asked her 5 questions by email) she became dismissive and rude and told us to stop asking questions and just apply. She was unable (or unwilling) to answer these basic questions about the property, including the size of the water tanks - a critical detail given there is no town water - she said she “couldn’t tell us in case we sued her if she was wrong.” She also made it clear she did not want answers provided in writing and all written communication was very blunt. She sent off our application to the landlord without having completed references. Her behaviour was rude, disrespectful, and dismissive throughout the process. Additionally, she smelled strongly of cigarettes during each inspection, which further added to the unprofessional experience. When our application was ultimately denied, she stated that we “couldn’t afford to live there,” directly contradicting earlier assurances and completely disregarding our offer of a guarantor or additional leaseholder. I don’t believe she even passed on this information to the owners. She also made inappropriate and offensive comments about another prospective tenant at the inspection at Benowa Street, she told us the other person at the viewing was going to apply but stated “the owners would prefer to rent to somebody living up here instead of a girl from the Gold Coast wearing a short white dress and g-string”. This comment was completely unacceptable and highly unprofessional. When telling us that our application had been denied she told us that we faffed around too much and the owners chose the other person at the viewing. Overall, misleading communication, inappropriate comments, and a lack of basic professionalism. I would not recommend dealing with this agent. Shanelle, on the other hand - friendly and professional and just lovely!
